Uses of Hypnosis

Clinical hypnotherapy and self hypnosis have many uses. To begin with hypnosis is a type of meditation with all the wonderful physiological advantages of meditation including stress reduction, better rest than sleep, problem solving and increase of creativity and many other health giving advantages. Therefore I always recommend to all my clients and friends to practice self hypnosis or some form of meditation about twenty minutes a day. However there are many specific uses of hypnosis and I want to write a little about these. I have divided the uses of hypnosis in several categories. However, these are not precise and many of the applications of hypnosis may belong to multiple categories. Please remember that many hypnotherapists know other skills such as NLP, Releasing, EFT and may use these as parts of the following applications. Also many licensed therapists, MDs and dentists know hypnosis and use these as part of their practice. I have included some terms like weight loss through hypnosis and quit smoking which linguistically I don't like and I teach my clients not to use. However, since everybody uses those terms I have included them here and I have also written about some abuses of hypnosis.

As I was writing the various applications (uses) of hypnosis, I noticed that I was writing the same thing over and over again. To an extent that's good since a great part of a good hypnotic suggestion is to repeat the suggestion. However, there is a limit to even repetition.
